Musings on Imbolc

09 Aug

Imbolc is one of my favorite seasonal celebrations. I recently rescued this from the site I posted it on, since that site may not be active much longer…

Imbolc, first of the three springtime celebrations, is a time to honor and welcome the returning light. In our ceremony at Winter Solstice we released those dark burdens which would no longer serve us, and we turned towards the light of new and coming hope. That same light is what we call on with each candle we light in our Imbolc ceremonies. This is the light of promise. Nature has promised us that, just as the seasons before gave way to winter, this winter too shall end with the coming spring. The Goddess, Divine Feminine, Cauldron of Life, promises to return.

We are still several weeks away from the warm days this coming light heralds. Now is the time to plan. We meditate on crops we wish to plant in our lives, so that when the time is right and the earth is warmed we may sow these seeds. Filled with hope, we burn our Imbolc candles to welcome the coming light.
